About

The history of racism in Digby area schools has been well documented, studied and reported on with promises to change. The Settlement Agreement with the Department of Education, the Tri-County School Board and the Nova Scotia Teacher’s Union resulted from a complaint made to the Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission.
Identified in the Settlement Agreement was the establishment of a community centre in Digby County. The community centre has symbolic and practical significance for the community. Symbolically, it represents a formal recognition that the thirty-year fight to address systemic racism has been officially recognized. Practically, it will is a place, open to all, nurturing education, cultural achievement and mutual respect within and between communities.
